When we woke up the rains had already stopped and the boys
were a little disappointed that they didn’t see cars toppled and houses with
windows shattered everywhere. After breakfast, we started the day with a visit
to the Sun Yet San Memorial building. Sun Yet San is considered the father of
modern China and the father of Taiwan. He is the one that led the rebellion
against the Chinese Emperors and started the Republic in China. His memorial
building is pretty similar to Chaing Kai-Shek’s with a giant statue of him on
the inside and guards that stand perfectly still while on duty. After checking
that out, we walked over to the puppet museum. Although small, this place was a
lot of fun. The children got to see the different types of puppets that had
been historically used in China – including hand puppets, string puppets, and
shadow puppets. The coolest part was they had examples of each of these types
of puppets for the children to play with. Rebecca and I got to watch several
different performances by the children as we went throughout the museum. Right
next to the museum was a huge mall with a several story globe that was half-way
inside the mall and half-way outside. We walked around the mall a bit to check
it out and then went back to the stores around our apartment for dinner.
A great view of the Taipei 101
At the Sun Yet San Memorial Building.
At the puppet museum. This place was kind of small, but a lot of fun.
All the awards and recognitions at the beef noodle soup place that we ate at that night. Too bad I forgot to get a picture of the actual beef noodle soup!
