July 18

We decided to do the cable cars today to a small city outside of Taipei called Maokong. Maokong is just a little village that is known for its great views of Taipei and for its tea houses/farms. I thought the cable cars were a little scary, especially at one point when mine (we had to split up into two groups) started swaying a lot from the wind. But the children all had a blast and were not scared at all. They did seam safer than the one Rebecca and I did in Spain at least. I had actually sworn off all cable cars after that one, but I could tell our kids really wanted to do it. Our first stop on the cable cars was a large temple on the hillside. Inside this temple they had a god statue for different birth years and so we all had fun trying to find ours. After that we went to the main city. Instead of visiting the teahouses, we had a hike all planned out for our time there. It turned out to be a pretty awesome hike. It went right through the jungle and has some pretty views. My favorite part about it though was every once in a while it went right by a small farm. I just love seeing these small houses in the jungle and imagining the people trying to live off the land. The hike ended with this cool waterfall that had a temple built into the cliff behind it. We took a nice long lunch there and enjoyed the shade. On the way back we stopped by a small stream and soaked our feet for a while. Well some of us soaked our feet while some of the children ended up soaking their whole bodies. After the hike we took the cable cars back down the mountain and went to a night market for dinner. Tianna and James tried stinky tofu (Rebecca and Christian ate the rest of the order) and the kids all got giant corndogs.
