June 13

We went to the main beach in Tainan today. It was about three and a half miles away, so we decided to take the bus. We went early to try to get in as much beach time as possible before it got too hot. I am glad we went early because there wasn’t a cloud in site the whole day long. It was a nice sandy beach with pretty shallow water for a ways out. It reminded me of the beaches in Hawaii, with just a few differences. I think the main difference come from people in Taiwan not being interested in the beach all that much. Even though Tainan is a town of about 2 million and this is the only beach in the area, we probably only saw five other people the whole time we were there. And those who were there, just came to walk in the sand – no one else was swimming. We tried to body surf the waves for a while and played in the sand some, but by the time it was 10:30, the sun was too hot and so we started to get cleaned up and make our way home.

We spent the afternoon getting cleaned up and resting in our apartment, then we went out to another night market in the evening. I liked this one better than the last one we went to in Tainan. It was a little smaller and there were way less people, which made it much more manageable. We got lots of yummy food to eat and had a fun time enjoying the night life.

Just outside the night market.

This lady is just starting our crepes.

These little pastry custard things were made into the shape of spongebob characters.

They had a Chinese version of doner kebab. This is pretty yummy wherever you go.
